A Half-Life and Portal movie is coming

The famous director J.J. Abrams announced at the DICE conference that he wants to make a movie based on the Half-Life and Portal series.
J.J. Abrams is known for films such as "Star Wars", "Lost", "Star Trek", "Super 8" and others.

After the DICE conference, Abrams said that work on the movie based on Valve's games is still at an early stage, but the chances that it will be made are very high. Abrams and Valve are currently discussing the idea for the new movie and want to bring screenwriters on board. Most likely the movie will be based on both games at once.

J.J. Abrams and Valve head Gabe Newell were invited to the conference as guests of honor. At this meeting Abrams said he wants to take part in creating a new game, and he already has ideas for it. Newell, on the other hand, talked more about adapting games like Half-Life and Portal for the screen. It was also noted that the movie will be original, i.e. it won't be a continuation of any of Valve's games.

A Half-Life movie adaptation and a new game will be far from the first joint project of J.J. Abrams and Valve. They've been working together for a long time. Portal 2 featured an interactive trailer for the movie "Super 8". On top of that, the series "Lost" contained nods to Half-Life, and Half-Life 2: Episode Two, in turn, contained nods to the series.
