Half-Life aliases

Since some aliases are now allowed on the server, it's time to write about them.
So that everyone knows what we're talking about and can use them.
How to use aliases and where to put them is also covered here.

Personally, I use the standard extra config userconfig.cfg. It's usually located in the valve folder; if it isn't there, create a text document and rename it to userconfig.cfg. Make sure the name doesn't end up as userconfig.cfg.txt, since Windows settings may hide the file extension.

Next, open this file and write in whatever you need: binds, aliases, etc.

If you want to give your config a different name, create a file [name].cfg and type exec [name].cfg in the console every time you start the game
Or add this line at the end of the standard config, config.cfg

There are lots of aliases in total, but mostly only three are used.

A list of all Half-Life aliases on our Wiki

Double Duck. A double crouch. Used to quickly climb up boxes and various obstacles.

bind "capslock" "+d"
alias "+d" "+duck;wait;-duck;wait;+duck"
alias "-d" "-duck"

Instead of capslock you can put any other key that suits you.

The second alias is usually used for bunnyhopping, mostly on servers where it's enabled. Our servers currently have no bunnyhopping. If you use the alias correctly, you can gain a bit of speed on regular servers too. The point of the script is that while holding the space bar, the player keeps jumping continuously instead of just once as before.

The script itself

alias "dj" "+jump;wait;-jump;wait;special"
alias "+dj" "alias _special dj; dj"
alias "-dj" "alias _special"
unbind SPACE
bind SPACE +dj

The last, third alias doesn't really bring anything useful. It lets you do long jumps (with the Long Jump module) by pressing just the space bar. It'll come in very handy for those whose CTRL key doesn't work or who find it really awkward to press 2 keys (on netbooks, for example)

LongJump alias

bind "space" "+lj"
alias "+lj" "+duck;wait;+jump"
alias "-lj" "-jump;wait;-duck"

Personally, I don't use this alias, since I'm perfectly comfortable pressing the 2 keys CTRL + SPACE

Binds

Binds are used for quick access to something, weapons for example. Put it all in your config, press the assigned key and your weapon switches, provided you have it, of course.

bind [key] [weapon]

where [key] is the key, for example Z or X
[weapon] is the weapon

Weapon list:

weapon_crowbar - crowbar
weapon_9mmhandgun - 9mm pistol
weapon_357 - .357 Magnum
weapon_9mmAR - MP5
weapon_shotgun - shotgun
weapon_crossbow - crossbow
weapon_rpg - RPG
weapon_gauss - gauss
weapon_egon - Egon
weapon_hornetgun - Hornet Gun
weapon_satchel - satchel charges
weapon_tripmine - tripmines
weapon_granade - hand grenades
weapon_snark - crazy snarks

An example of my config with comments:

// weapon binds
bind "z" "weapon_9mmAR" // MP5 when pressing Z
bind "x" "weapon_shotgun" // Shotgun
bind "v" "weapon_crossbow" // crossbow
bind "v" "weapon_rpg"
bind "c" "weapon_gauss"
